Wash Ur Kidneys! Walk, Volunteer or Donate to 2018 NKF St. Louis Kidney Walk

Jane Stromberg and Tingting Li, co-captains

Jane Stromberg, MSW, and Tingting Li, MD, are co-captains of Wash Ur Kidneys, the Washington University Nephrology team participating in the annual St. Louis Kidney Walk, to be held 12:30 – 4 pm, March 4, 2018, at the Chaifetz Arena.

The National Kidney Foundation (NKF) sponsors the fundraiser, which is nation’s largest walking event to raise money and promote awareness of kidney disease and the need for organ donation.
Kidney Walks are an important source of support for those in need. Eighty percent of every dollar donated goes to research, patient services, professional education, public health education and community services. Click here to see how the money is used.

Ms. Stromberg, a social worker in the division who is putting together the WU team, believes in the NKF mission. “The NKF is a great resource for our patients,” says Stromberg. “The local Eastern Missouri Chapter offers special programs including a new patient support group.”

You don’t have to walk to support the event. Consider becoming a volunteer. The Kidney Walk needs volunteers for set-up, helping with event activities, giving route directions, and clean up.

The Wash Ur Kidneys team follows in the footsteps of another team in our division, the Limp of Henle, who competed in the 2016 WashU Moves! Step Challenge. The initiative, sponsored by the Wellness Connection, encouraged the incorporation of more movement into one’s daily life to improve overall fitness and reduce the risk for a variety of diseases. Collectively, the Limp of Henle team walked more than 3,800 miles over the 100-day challenge.

Although the St. Louis Kidney Walk is a fun, inspiring, “non-competitive” event, that will not stop the WU team from trying to raise the most money for the foundation! It won’t be easy, though. Wash Ur Kidneys will be up against the likes of St. Louis Children’s Hospital’s team The Bean Cleaners and Express Scripts’ Keepin’ It Renal team.

So, come on, show some WU spirit and click here to join, donate, and support the Wash Ur Kidneys team! Congratulations go out to Cheryl Cress, Forest Park Kidney Center and Shawna McMichael, from Forest Park Home Modalities. Both submitted Wash Ur Kidneys as the team name. Cheryl and Shawna received a $75 donation to the Kidney walk in their names.
