Patient Care

The Washington University kidney specialists at Barnes-Jewish Hospital see an estimated 3,000 new patients annually for the treatment of renal diseases and are recognized for providing premier patient care, including inpatient and outpatient dialysis. The team has an outstanding track record for excellent outcomes for kidney and kidney/pancreas transplants and is known for having one of the lowest infection rates worldwide for kidney transplantation.

Our specialists are Washington University physicians who treat a broad spectrum of renal diseases, among them:

  • Acute kidney injury (AKI)
  • Cardio-renal syndromes
  • Electrolyte disorders
  • Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS)
  • Glomerular disorders secondary to systemic diseases of an immune and non-immune pathogenesis
  • Lupus/vasculitis renal complications
  • Polycystic kidney disease (PKD)
  • Primary glomerulopathies
  • Reno-vascular disorders

We have specialized, multidisciplinary patient care clinics for the treatment of lupus, glomerular diseases, vasculitis, and polycystic kidney diseases (PKD). In addition, we operate several area dialysis centers, including the Washington University Dialysis Center, and offer comprehensive training and support for those electing home dialysis options.
