The faculty of the Renal Division is a multidimensional group. Each faculty member is active not only in scientific investigation and clinical medicine but also in a variety of institutional, national, and international academic and educational pursuits. The first two Division directors, Drs. Neal Bricker and Saulo Klahr, served as president of the American Society of Nephrology. Dr. Klahr, is a past editor-in-chief of the American Journal of Kidney Diseases, a past president of the National Kidney Foundation, a past editor-in-chief of Kidney International, and past Councilor of the International Society of Nephrology. Dr. Keith Hruska served from 1989 to 1995 as editor-in-chief of the American Journal of Physiology: Renal Fluid and Electrolyte Physiology, and Drs. Marc R. Hammerman and Aubrey R. Morrison were associate editors. Dr. Marc Hammerman is a past deputy-editor of Kidney International and currently serves as associate editor for Transplant Immunology and for Organogenesis. Dr. Will R. Ross is associate dean at Washington University and director of the Office of Diversity. Dr. Hammerman served for 11 years as director of the Internal Medicine Housestaff Training Program at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Responsibilities of academic medical faculty in the Division are many, creating an environment in which trainees are exposed to the spectrum of experiences that define academic medical science and nephrology. Division faculty are recognized regularly for excellence in investigation and teaching. Within the last decade, Dr. Eduardo Slatopolsky received the Frederick C. Bartter Award from the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research the Belding Scribner Award from the American Society of Nephrology the Amgen Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Society of Nephrology and the Peter H Raven Lifetime Achievement Award from the St. Louis Academy of Science; Dr. Daniel Brennan received both the Young Investigator Award and the Clinical Investigator Award from the American Society of Transplantation; Dr. Jeffrey Miner received the AstraZeneca Young Investigator Award from the American Physiological Society- Renal Section and the Young Investigator Award from the American Society of Nephrology/American Heart Association; Dr. Saulo Klahr received the John Peters Award from the American Society of Nephrology, the Edward N. Fourteen renal faculty members have been recognized by election to the Association of American Physicians. Six faculty members are currently members of the AAP. Twenty of our postdoctoral trainees or faculty members have been elected to the American Society for Clinical Investigation. Seven faculty members are presently members of the ASCI. Eleven faculty members have been Established Investigators of the American Heart Association. Two hold endowed chairs at the School of Medicine. Renal Faculty Members
